Jon Pearlman, PhD

Co-Director

Jon Pearlman, PhD is an associate professor and chair in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology. His training is in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on rehabilitation engineering and product design. He is a translational researcher, and the focus of his work is on participatory action design, assistive technology transfer methods, and new product development. As a researcher and scientist that has helped to commercialize several products, he hope to lend a personal view of how it is possible to take an idea and turn it into an impactful solution. I have been involved in 2 start-up companies and several licenses to existing companies related to assistive technology, and advised many other students and professionals related to assistive tech-transfer activities. So I’m aware of many of the common pitfalls and mitigating strategies to improve the likelihood of effective technology transfer.
